April Book Club

We read Bossypants, by Tina Fey, for our April selection.  Our book club tries to be eclectic, a little drama, classic, historical fiction, comedy, annual summer beach read, etc.  So it was time for some comedy and we picked this right!  This is a great, funny book.  We heard from a members son the audiobook is even better because Tina herself recorded it.  This is a very easy read and definitely something you can put down and get back to much later if that's how life is rolling right now.  Tina is so funny and in the end filled with the same joys and worries as all of us.  She is a mom first too.  There are so many funny stories about her life in a normal middle class family growing up, college, and getting her start in Chicago.  I guarantee this read will be worth your time.  And it sounds like it's an even better "listen".

Over the River . . .

I always loved this song when I was little and this was a hot little project I found at a recent quilt show.  In fact, it was sold out and I had to order this.  It will make up into a small wall hanging and I can't wait to get the embroidery started.  This will be a great RV project and I promise it will be done before summer's end.

Elephant Kit

This is a fun kit I bought during our Lake Tahoe trip last November.  It's a sweet, funky elephant in baby quilt size.  My daughter and father in law both love and collect elephants.  So I see a couple of these in my future.  It should be fun to put together and I'll use very different colors in each project.  More pictures to come.

Birthday Gift

I saw this pattern made up at a couple of quilt shops and shows recently and thought it was pretty special.  Well, my dear friend gave it to me for my birthday with the background fabric included.  I need to get the embroidery prep done so I can tuck it into my bag on our next trip (later this month).  The words are pretty cute and I can't wait to finish this and hang it in my quilt room!

Fun new project

Cupcakes are all the rage -- this is the less fattening variety.  This potholder pattern was a Featherweight Club project at a local quilt shop.  I signed up for the class, bought my pattern, and was excited to attend.  Then they called and said they decided you had to join for the year to be part of it.  Well, that just doesn't fit my life right now.  So I have this cute pattern and need to get busy making some low calorie cupcakes!  I promise to post pictures when they're still warm.

Pineapple Star Adventure!

My sewing group and I just found this great idea for a group project.  Of course we couldn't just choose a LoneStar or a Pineapple, two advanced projects.  We chose a Pineapple Star for our projects.  I really think we are crazy sometimes.  But we are persistent and have a lot of talent in our group to get us through these incredible quilting feats.  So we have our books, foundation patterns and mock-ups.  Here is my mock up:

I love my colors and have a few things to perfect here before cutting.  My inner point will have a kaleidoscope look to it so I have to scan my fabric with the mirrors and fussy cut those points.  I also have to find the turquoise/royal blue fabric.  This was a scrap to get the right value.  This will be a spectacular quilt when it's done and a semi lifetime achievement.
